Men's Hockey Welcomes No. 1 Michigan This Weekend

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Men's hockey hosts No. 1 Michigan this friday and saturday in a back-to-back at Bright-Landry.

Completing the home-and-home with Michigan over Thanksgiving, the Crimson traveled to Ann Arbor during the 2022-23 season to play two games at Yost Arena.

Both games this weekend are sold out, with limited tickets available on SeatGeek.

PUCK DROP

  • Both games on Friday and Saturday are scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop on ESPN+.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Michigan leads the all-time series 6-2-2.
  • The last meeting came in 2022-23 when then No. 9 Harvard went to Ann Arbor to take on the No. 5 Wolverines.
  • Earning a tie in the first game, Harvard fell to Michigan 4-1 in the second game of the back-to-back.
  • The two-game set in 2022-23 was the first time the two met since December of 2001.
  • Joe Miller is the only Crimson skater to have recorded a point against Michigan in his career.

HIGHLY RANKED

  • The last time the Crimson hosted a top-10 opponent was Nov. 16 of last season against Cornell.
  • The last time Harvard played a top-5 opponent was last year against No. 2 Boston College at Conte Forum.
  • The Eagles were also the last top-5 team to visit Bright-Landry two years ago over Thanksgiving when they were No. 3 in the nation.
  • Harvard last played the nation's top team back in 2015-16 when it took on then No. 1 Quinnipiac.
  • Harvard cracked the USA Hockey Poll for the first time this season, checking in at No. 18.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Crimson cruised past Vermont 5-1 last weekend.
  • Phil Tresca netted the fifth Crimson goal.
  • Tresca has three goals in his last four games and five through seven this season — already a career high for the senior.
  • Casey Severo scored on the power play for his fourth straight game with a goal.
  • Joe Miller skated in his 100th career game.
  • With the win, the Crimson has won four straight games for the first time since 2022-23.

CHASING CLEARY

  • Ted Donato sits two wins away from becoming the program's all-time win leader, passing his former coach Bill Cleary.
  • Donato passed Ralph "Cooney" Weiland for second all-time in program history after the opening-round playoff win against RPI last season.
  • Donato is currently 49th all-time in NCAA history in career victories, with only ten active coaches having more wins than the long-time leader of the Crimson.

  • The line of Philip Tresca, Casey Severo, and Mick Thompson has been extremely efficient since becoming a line late last season.
  • Becoming a trio in the 25th game of the season last year, the first line produced 34 points across the final 10 games of the season.
  • This season, the trio has 26 points through seven games for 60 points over their last 17 games played.

MAJOR MICK

  • This season Mick Thompson is second in the country in points per game through seven games (1.571).
  • Mick Thompson leads the country in points per game dating back to February 14th with 26 points in 17 games (1.529).
  • Thompson is on a four-game point streak and has points in five of the last six games.
  • He has eight points in his last four games.

PERFECT PK

  • The Crimson penalty killing unit has yet to allow a goal through seven games this season.
  • On November 15th against the Saints, the Crimson went 5-for-5 on the PK.
  • No other team in the nation is 100% on the PK.

MICKY THREES

  • Mick Thompson recorded the fifth and sixth three-point games of his career against Stonehill and Colgate.
  • The Ontario native has all six three-point games in his last 13 games.
  • Since 2002-03, Mick Thompson ranks 8th among Crimson skaters who have recorded multiple three-point games through just 40 career games.
  • Those in front of him are Adam Fox (97 career games), Casey Dornbach (131 career games), Sean Malone (115 career games), current Crimson forward Joe Miller, Sean Farrell (58 career games), Nick Abruzzese (59 career games), and Tyler Moy (131 career games).
SHUT DOWN CHEVY
  • Ben Charette has been lights out to start the season for the Crimson.
  • Charette had stopped 70 of 73 shots in his first two games of the season. 
  • In the opener against UConn, he also made seven saves in the shootout for an unofficial 43 saves on 47 shots. 
  • To open the season the sophomore had made 30+ saves in six straight games. 
  • He has made 30+ saves in four of five wins this season. 
  • Since 2002-03, only two former Crimson sophomores have more wins with 30+ saves than Ben Charette through just seven games this season.

ROOKIE RESURGENCE

  • Through seven games this season, Harvard first-years have combined for 14 points.
  • Leading the way are Drake Murray, Heikki Ruohonen, Aidan Lane, and Richard Gallant.
  • Harvard is one of five teams in the ECAC whose rookies have contributed an average of over two points a game.

CLUTCH CASEY

  • In 2023-24, seven of Severo's eight goals had either narrowed the deficit to one, tied the game, or given the Crimson the lead.
  • In 2024-25, 10 of his 16 goals either tied the game or gave the Crimson the lead, while two others pushed the Crimson lead to two.
  • Over the past three seasons, 17 of his 29 goals have either narrowed the deficit to one, tied the game, or given the Crimson the lead.

ALL HANDS ON DECK

  • In games where Harvard has scored five or more goals, no skater has recorded more than one goal.
