CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Crimson fencers will be spread out across the globe this weekend for several marquee international competitions in Europe, Asia and North America.
A pair of Olympians will take the center stage for the United States in Orleans, France this weekend for the Men's Saber Grand Prix.
Mitchell Saron '23 and sophomore
Colin Heathcock will don the red, white and blue in France on Friday and Saturday. In his last international outing, Heathcock won gold at the Senior Men's Saber World Cup in Algeria last month.
Three Crimson fencers will compete at the Senior Women's Foil World Cup in Korea this weekend as well. First-year
Lucia Zhang will fence with Canada, while fellow classmate
Emily Jing and two-time Olympic medalist
Lauren Scruggs '25 will represent the United States at the event. Scruggs currently ranks 16
th in the world rankings heading into the weekend, as Zhang and Jing both rank in the top 35 as well.
Juniors
Henry Lawson and Izzy Chin, along with sophomore
Nicholas Zhang, will head up north to Vancouver, Canada for the Senior Epee World Cup. Zhang represented Canada at the 2024 Paris Olympics and has also started the collegiate season strongly with a 24-7 record. Lawson and Chin are representing the USA for the first time in a Senior World Cup. At the October North America Cup, Lawson earned a silver medal in the men's Division I competition, while Chin took sixth place in the women's Division I competition.Â
Last weekend also saw two Crimson fencers shine in junior competitions. At the Junior Men's Foil World Cup in Slovakia, first-year
Roy Graham took home a gold medal, as the Springfield, Virginia native is 19-2 to start his collegiate career. In Hong Kong, sophomore
Yasmine Khamis finished in seventh place at the Junior Women's Epee World Cup.
Harvard returns to collegiate action in the Empire State on Saturday, Jan. 17 with the St. John's Invitational.
