PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving's 200-free relay posted an NCAA A-cut time to help the Crimson remain in third place on Thursday at the Ivy League Championships.
Harvard, which entered the day in a tie for third with Cornell, broke the stalemate and sits alone with 360.50 points. The Crimson finds itself behind Yale (486.50) and Princeton (407.50), and ahead of Brown (322), Cornell (305.50), Columbia (292.50), Penn (245) and Dartmouth (225.50).
How It Happened
- Ben Littlejohn opened the night by winning the C-final in 4:20.25, which was more than three seconds better than his preliminary time of 4:23.28. Tristan Dalbey came in third place with a season-best time of 4:22.45.
- Harris Durham was the runner-up in the B-final of the 500 free, finishing in 4:22.21. The senior's 4:22.05 in the prelims was a season-best.
- In the A-final of the 500 free, Shane Washart finished a few ticks off his season-best, which was accomplished in the prelims (4:20.27). The senior came in sixth place after completing the race in 4:20.49.
- In the 200 individual medley, first-year Richard Poplawski III picked up points for the Crimson by coming in sixth place in the C-final (season-best 1:46.47). In the next heat -- the B-final -- classmate Adriano Arioti was the runner-up, completing his finest race of the season in 1:44.64 (fourth-fastest in school history).
- Harvard had five swimmers compete in the finals of the 50 free. First-year Evan Croley came in third (19.88) in the C-final, while sophomore Oliver Pilkinton finished in fourth (19.98). Both times were season-bests.
- David Greeley came in fourth place in the 50-free B-final, finishing the sprint in 19.80, which was just shy of his season-best 19.79, which occurred in the prelims.
- Sophomore Sonny Wang, who posted the third-fastest 50-free time in school history in the prelims (19.25) and was one of two swimmers to break the pool record, took silver with a performance of 19.29. Marre Gattnar, meanwhile, posted the sixth-best time in the field and in program history (19.52).
- Adam Wesson came in third place on the 1-meter diving board, earning a score of 323.85. Raphael Tourette, meanwhile, came in fourth place in the B-final (279.55).
- The Crimson finished the night with the 200 free relay and was edged for first place by Yale. The Bulldogs completed the event in 1:16.48, while the Crimson quartet of Wang, Gattnar, Greeley and Aayush Deshpande finished in 1:16.53. Harvard's performance, however, was an NCAA A-standard time, which automatically qualifies it for the national meet, and the third-fastest effort in school history.
