Gorriaran Earns Ivy League Athlete of the Week Honors

PRINCETON, N.J. – For the first time this season, junior Sophia Gorriaran earns Ivy League Women's Athlete of the Week honors. Gorriaran joins sophomore Harlow Tong as the only Crimson to earn a weekly award from the Ivy League this season.

A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Gorriaran broke the Ivy League record with a time of 2:38.75 in the women's 1000m at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, surpassing the former record of 2:39.13 set by Princeton's Hannah Riggins at the 2025 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Championships. Gorriaran's time also ranks third all-time in NCAA history.

A four-time All-American in the 800m across both indoor and outdoor competition, Gorriaran is establishing herself as one of the best middle-distance talents in the nation once again. Gorriaran currently ranks third nationally in the women's 800m with a time of 2:01.30 and 19th in the women's mile with a time of 4:32.94.

Harvard continues its journey this weekend with a pair of meets, featuring at the Riverhawk Invitational and the ECAC/IC4A Championships from Thursday, Feb. 5 to Saturday, Feb. 7.
