LEXINGTON, Ky. – A total of seven Crimson student-athletes punched their tickets to the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, orchestrating stellar displays at the third day of the 2024 NCAA East Region First Round.
After qualifying for the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, first-year
Tito Alofe will cap off his inaugural collegiate season in Eugene, as the reigning Ivy League outdoor men's high jump champion qualified for the men's high jump at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Â
The Crimson's dynamic distance duo also punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, as junior
Graham Blanks and senior
Acer Iverson took spots in the top-12 in the 5,000m at the 2024 NCAA East Region First Round.
Day three of the NCAA East Region First Round ended in historic fashion, as the men's 4x400m relay of seniors
Aaron Shirley, Gregory Lapit, Peter Diebold, and
Lance Ward clinched a spot at NCAA Outdoor Nationals by breaking the Ivy League and program record in the event.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- First-Year Lilly Hodge kicked-off the third day of the 2024 NCAA East Region First Round in the women's pole vault. In her home state of Kentucky, Hodge took 30th place after clearing the bar at 3.95m (12'11.5")
- For a second time in 2024, Alofe will don the Harvard H at an NCAA National Championship meet.
- A native of Peachtree City, Georgia, Alofe clinched a spot at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as he cleared the bar at 2.17m (7'1.5") in the men's high jump. That clearance is a new personal-best in the outdoor men's high jump for Alofe and his mark in Lexington ranks second all-time in school history.
- First-Year Ferenc Kovacs took to the track for the men's 1,500m quarterfinals. A native of Torokbalint, Hungary, Kovacs crossed the finish line in 3:46.56 to take 19th place.
- In the men's 3,000m steeplechase quarterfinals, junior Reed Pryor navigated the obstacles to a 37th place finish, posting a time of 9:13.43.
- On the runway, junior Daniel Falode produced an excellent display in the men's triple jump, as the reigning Ivy League men's triple jump champion took 13th place with a season-best jump of 15.75m (51'8.5").
- The Crimson's All-American duo of Iverson and Blanks raced to top-five finishes in the men's 5,000m, as Blanks posted a time of 13:51.08 while Iverson crossed the finish line in 13:52.04.
- The day ended on a high note, as the men's 4x400m relay team combined for a time of 3:03.76 to finish in 11th , breaking the Ivy League record of 3:05.86 set by Princeton in 2011 in the process.
