MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving finished second-day action at the Minnesota Invitational on Thursday inside The Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. The Crimson finished the day on a strong note, taking third on the 1-meter diving board and finishing in second place in the 200 free relay.
How It Happened in the Prelims
- Shane Washart qualified for the B-final of the 500 free when he posted the 11th-best prelim time (4:24.71). Tristan Dalbey (4:26.81) and Harris Durham (4:27.02) also earned berths after coming in 15th and 16th, respectively. Ben Littlejohn (4:31.30), Filip Lanyi (4:31.42) and Felipe Baffico (4:31.80), meanwhile, posted the 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-best times to make the C-final. All registered their best times of 2024-25.
- Adriano Arioti and Eric Lee posted the Crimson's best times in the 200 IM prelims, finishing in 1:48.24 and 1:48.71, respectively. Those performances were good to send them to the B-final. Richard Poplawski III (1:49.42), Quinn Harron (1:49.54) and Jonathan Novinski (1:50.04) all advanced to the C-final. Everyone who moved on to the night session logged season-best efforts.
- Sonny Wang missed making the A-final of the 50 free by 0.01 seconds and instead earned the top seed in the B-final. He was joined by David Greeley (season-best 20.03), Oliver Pilkinton (season-best 20.10) and Anthony Rincon (season-best 20.19), who finished with the 13th-, 14th-, and 16th-fastest times. Marre Gattnar (20.22), David Schmitt (20.28) and Evan Croley (20.35) all moved on to the C-final with their top performances to date.
- Adam Wesson was the 1-meter diving runner-up in the prelims, recording a score of 361.05. The Crimson also had the No. 6 (Raphael Tourette – 277.85), No. 7 (Will Sullivan – 260.95) and No. 11 divers (Jack Holland – 229.10).
How It Happened in the Finals
- Washart was the runner-up in the B-final of the 500 free, posting a season-best 4:22.39. Dalbey (season-best 4:26.60) and Durham (4:28.65) were sixth and eighth, respectively. In the C-final, Baffico and Lanyi both bested their prelim times clocking in at 4:28.71 and 4:30.76 to finish in second and third.
- In the B-final of the 200 IM, Arioti was edged for first place and settled for second with a time of 1:46.94. His performance was close to two seconds better than his prelim performance. Lee came in sixth place, touching the wall for the final time in 1:49.04. Poplawski (season-best 1:48.94), Rhee (season-best 1:49.31), Novinski (season-best 1:49.97) and Harron (1:50.63) finished in second, fourth, sixth and eighth, respectively, in the C-final.
- Wang was the Crimson's top swimmer in the 50 free B-final, registering a third-place effort of 19.80 (season-best). Pilkinton came in fifth place with a season-best 20.03, with Greeley (20.11) and Rincon (season-best 20.14) finishing in sixth and seventh, respectively. Gattnar, meanwhile, won the C-final in 20.07 (season best) and was followed by Croley (7th, 20.61) and Schmitt (8th, 21.02).
- Wesson took third place on the 1-meter diving board, earning a score of 323.20. Tourette (286.40) and Sullivan (274.60) came in fifth and sixth, respectively.
- Harvard ended its day with a runner-up performance in the 200 free relay. Wang, Greeley, Pilkinton and Gattnar combined to log a time of 1:18.12 to finish second to California (1:18.13). Prior to today, the fastest Crimson time of the year was 1:20.92 vs. Columbia.
